Agent Profile

Behind every good professional athlete, there is an equally professional sports agent providing much needed support. Some athletes see agents as a valuable tool while others consider them nothing more than a necessary evil. Truth be told, a strong relationship between an athlete and their agent is the thread that holds professional sports together. At Doan Sports Management, we consider an agent to be a major conduit between the athlete and the bevy of responsibilities they will face on a daily basis throughout their lives.

Why Hire a Sports Agent?

A day in the life of a professional athlete involves constant interaction with a large group of people with an agenda that often conflicts with the athlete’s own personal agenda. Everyone needs a moment of their time while their sport is demanding complete focus and dedication. As a professional athlete, you have been trained to compete at the highest level. You are often faced with the reality that failure to do so might cost you your livelihood. With a limited number of years to garner financial security, it would be unreasonable for anyone to expect you to allow the distractions of trying to be an accountant, publicist, public personality or financial adviser to interfere with your preparation and performance on the field. Those are few of the areas best left for a sports agent to handle.

Doan Sports Management

My name is Jimmy Doan and as the owner of this sports management company, I set out to offer my services and talents to professional athletes who need to be focused on athletic performance, not the everyday hassles that come with celebrity and fortune. I have spent the biggest part of my life involved with sports as both a player and player representative. I have had the privileged to learn about sports as a fan, participant and facilitator. It is my greatest desire for this firm to adequately represent the love I feel for sports of all kinds and the admiration and respect I feel for the athletes who dedicate their lives to making sports fun and entertaining for the fans.

Why I became an Agent

When I made the choice to become a lawyer, I knew that I needed to somehow fuse my love for the law with my love for sports. The fact I became a sports agent has given me the opportunity to do just that. Beyond the privileged of doing what I love for a living, I also get the opportunity to be involved with providing professional services that make a difference. They make a difference to the athletes I represent who are subsequently freed up to do what they love the most, play sports and compete as professional athletes.

Now My Services Can Make a Difference

Experience is a great teacher. Through my involvement as the owner and managing partner of one of the largest law firms in Houston, Texas, I have learned the art of negotiating contracts where everyone gains what they need. I have also learned how to properly value people and their right to pursue happiness, be it through accomplishment or gaining wealth. Ultimately, I believe in what an athlete is trying to accomplish. In most sports, the window of opportunity for an athlete to build the kind of financial security that will last a lifetime is often narrow due to age limitations and/or the possibility of injury. As a sports agent, I understand it is my responsibility to sit down with team owners, advertisers and entertainment personal to secure the best contracts possible for the benefit of my clients.

More importantly, I understand it is my responsibility to help make certain aspects of the athlete’s life seamless. If the athletes I represent aren’t successful financially as well as in life, I have not done my job to the best of my ability. The demands placed on athletes beyond performing on the field are enormous. Not only do they represent their team or sponsors as a player, they are also expected to represent a brand when off the field. To some people, especially kids and sports fans, they become celebrities and idols. The best way I can think of to assure my clients are able to fulfill these obligations is to make sure they get the opportunity to build their own brand in a good light, which allows them to show who they really are as both an athlete and as an individual.
